Mac 188 or 190? Please help!?

I’m so torn! I don’t know which one to choose!
I wanted a full coverage with my makeup. So, I was going to choose the 190 brush. But, I talked to my mom and she said that since I was only 17, I didn’t really need full coverage on my face. So then I was going to go with the 188 brush because I hear it gives an airbrushed look to your face.
So which one should I choose?!
(I would purchase the 187 brush cuz its a larger version of the 188..but I cant afford a $42 brush at the moment…)

I think the 188 would give a lighter coverage and will likely give a airbrushed finished. Most brushes like that do.

I use a brush similar to the 190, and it does give a fuller coverage. But since I haven’t used the 190 personally, I can’t give a completely honest review.

My wedding is coming up. I can go to the Mac counter at Macys and just have them do my makeup, or I can have someone come to my wedding on the morning and get airbrushed. Is airbrushing really worth it or should i just have the Mac counter do regular makeup?

The only thing closest to a sale I seen at MAC was free shipping at their site. If you’re lucky enough though, once in a while they have a 20% off sale. But that is very, very rare. Usually once every year and the last sale was 25% off and ended on January 8th so you’re out of luck until next year.

I know Sephora has an annual Friends & Family sale for the holidays for 20% off, Tarte, Urban Decay, and some other high end brands have sales on their websites here and there. Does MAC ever go on a discount sale? Or do I just have to visit a CCO?

Does MAC cosmetics have a yearly sale?

Okay so I don’t use MAC currently but I’ve used their foundation and lipglass. Hate the lipglass but love the foundation. Anyways, I know that their brushes are excellent quality. My mom uses all MAC products and a while back, she got a brush set for the eyes. She got a few eyeshadow brushes, and eyeliner brush, and a couple other ones. And she said that every year (I think) MAC has a sale and she got that set of brushes for 50 dollars. She told me to save my money cause I should get it haha.

What I was wondering is, do they really have this sale she’s telling me about? Has anyone ever heard of it?

Unfortunately, MAC does not have any sales. What your mom is talking about are the brush sets that run from 42-50 usd. They always have these sets during the holidays. Go to your nearest MAC store and find out when the release of their Hello Kitty collection is. There will be a brush set in that collection. You can get MAC for cheaper of you go to the CCO at the outlets, which sells past collection items and older items (whose packaging has been upgraded). You can also to Back to MAC, return any 6 empty MAC containers and get free lipstick or lipgloss.

Yes and no, is the short answer.

There is a lot of competition, both from the existing makeup community and from digital alternatives. However, digital is still expensive for many things, and frankly the things digital do best are the things hardest to do live. Depends where you want to work-theatre, independent films (a growing industry where budgets are smaller but there is more freedom away from big studios, by passed by public domain broadcasting or places such as YouTube and costs of digital cameras coming down), or as a freelancer for existing workshops.

Although there is a huge amount of buzz because of movies like Avatar, there are still makeup effects being used where actors are involved. There is still expansion of studios and filming facilities-why build sets if you have no need to shoot real actors. If there are real actors, there is likely to be makeup. Not every movie is going to be like Scrooge or Avatar.

The other thing to consider is that there are skills in makeup effects and prosthetics which are utterly transferable to digital equivalents. The process of sculpting a zombie face is exactly the same if using clay or a sculpting program such as ZBrush.Who better to model a digital creature than someone who has been using the real stuff first?

There is such similarity between the needs of makeup effects created by practical and virtual methods. If there is a blurring of lines between the departments (and I believe there is already a move towards this, as more traditional effects artists sculptors get on board the digital equivalents) then the different disciplines will be able to use the best aspects of eachother to create the best effect.

Rod removal and puppet supports can easily be taken out etc, or facial animation enhanced, as in Where The Wild Things Are, or the digital blinks in the Aphex Twin video ‘Windowlicker’ (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2fmo1Sjn7dg) making the masks appear much more realistic.

Looking at Pans Labyrinth for example, there was a great blend of CGI and creature suits to great effect. The director, Guillermo del Toro had a background in makeup effects and consequently can appreciate how they can be used together. The result is a series of amazing effects.

What I would say is that the digital revolution has made the design aspect all the more important. Not everyone can create a cool looking creature just because they have the software. Consider that not everyone who has Word will create a best selling novel. Those that do it well and made a career out of it really loved doing it for fun first, and were lucky enough to make a living out of it.

They do makeup for movies and stuff, ie if someone was shot in the head they can create a bullethole and wound out of plaster and coloring, stuff like that. And they do makeup for people in horror movies, and for fantasy films where you have all your weird half-human half-whatever things, etc.

Looks quite fun plus youd always be the most convincing at a halloween party.

I am a senior in high school and I am 17 years old

Cosmetology schools don’t teach makeup. They teach hair, skin, and nails. With that said, none of the makeup schools are ALLOWED per California regulations to accept anyone without a GED or high school diploma. They are all regulated by the private school association and to keep their financial aid status and to be accredited they are not allowed to allow anyone who hasn’t graduated high school (ie normally 18 or over) into their programs. It’s a way for the California Education system to ensure that students who may not go to college have to at least finish their high school degree. It’s a statewide mandate. If you have your GED and are under 18 most schools will take you because that is allowable per the state guidelines. If so the two best are Westmore and MUD.

Can someone realistically expect to get a good career as a makeup artist at a short-term vocational school?

I am considering going to this makeup school that does not even take 2 months to complete. The tuition is below $2,000. If I complete the program, I’ll be given a certifcate, and not a license of any kind. The program focuses just on beauty makeup….not on special-effect nakeup, or hair. This school is very well-known and popular, but I still have my doubts. It seems like an inexpensive and quick way to a career. What do you think?

Some free programs that come with your mac:

Safari: An internet browser like Internet Explorer, but it is a lot different and it is safer.

IMovie: Allows you to make movies

iDVD: Allows you to make DVDs

iWeb: Allow you to make web pages

iChat: A program that allows you to get on AIM (AOL Instant Messenger)

TextEdit: Sort of like WordPad for Windows

iTunes: The program to access your ipod, plays music, and stores them in library, and also does cool stuff.

QuickTime: Plays videos, music, photos, etc. And can do a lot of formats.

There are some other stuff for macs that is just amazing.

Windows sucks when it comes to default program. Internet Games, wordpad, notepad, paint, Internet Explorer? Pathetic.

The ones I said are installed already, where stuff liek this for windows you have to find.
